PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE INCREASE community health
This program contributes to our community’s food security by increasing access to nutritious, locally-grown produce. The Neighbors’ Place Community Gardens consist of two garden sites that provide thousands of pounds of fresh produce to Marathon County families each year through.
This garden is located on The Neighbors' Place's property and grows food like potatoes, salad greens, beans, tomatoes, peppers, and more. This garden is maintained by volunteers and supported by seed and seedling donations from local farmers and greenhouses. The harvested produce is distributed through our food pantry and gives our clients access to high-quality produce. This garden is proudly chemical-free, and grows delicious food without the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
This garden is possible through a partnership with the Marathon County Historical Society. The Neighbors’ Place uses this garden to “grow” community by empowering people to produce their own fresh and healthy food on a 6X12 raised bed while interacting with their neighbors.
Those interested in gardening in our 3rd Street Gardens can complete an application at The Neighbors’ Place or elecronically submit an application for consideration. Plots will be distributed in mid-May, and gardeners can then begin planting. The Neighbors’ Place does not supply tools for gardening, however water is provided at the 3rd Street Garden site.
