Tom Rau

Executive Director

Tom has been with The Neighbors’ Place since 2001. As executive director, he works in partnership with the board to meet The Neighbors’ Place's mission of  “People Helping People.” He also manages day-to-day operations and provides direction & support to the staff. Tom and his wife, Marcy, have three grown sons whom they enjoy visiting in Chicago and Olympia Washington. When he’s not at work he can often be found on the golf course or ski slopes. He is an avid Packer fan (and owner), a maturing soccer fan and has celebrated 20 years as a local soccer referee.

Kathy Rubino

Food, Furniture & Basic Needs Bank Director

Kathy is in charge of the Furniture & Basic Needs Bank as well as the Wheels Again program and the Food Bank. She works with the different agencies and job developers to help those in need of furniture, basic household items and helping those in need of transportation for work purposes. Kathy also provides job training and helps those in need of transitional living skills. Prior to joining the staff, Kathy had a career in nursing and served on the Board of Directors for The Neighbors’ Place. She loves spending time with her family, which includes her husband, Frank, two sons, and a new grandson.

Marcy Rau

Community Learning Center Coordinator

A long-time teacher herself, Marcy matches students with tutors who help with one-on-one skill development, facilitates sewing & knitting classes to encourage cross-cultural literacy, and oversees the Youth Education program and Provider Storyteller Network – all part of the Community Learning Center. Marcy is native to Wausau. She and her husband, Tom, raised their three sons here. For fun, Marcy loves to swim at the YMCA, spend time with family & friends, and just enjoys being part of this community.

Susan Stanko

Executive Assistant

Susan comes to The Neighbors' Place as a former volunteer for the organization. She is a Librarian by education and previously worked for 10 years at the Chicago Heights Public Library. She has worked with Wausau River District (formerly Main Street Wausau) and the Marathon County Historical Society as a volunteer as well. Susan loves working with the public and considers herself a lifelong learner.

Mallory McGivern

Volunteer & Community Garden Manager

Mallory found a home at The Neighbors' Place utilizing her experience in nonprofit work, agriculture and outdoor education. She is proud to work with the incredible volunteers at The Neighbors' Place and also manages our community gardens during the growing season. In the summer she can be found biking, fly fishing, kayaking and backpacking. She enjoys spinning wool and making pottery when the weather turns cold. Mallory also serves on the Board of Directors for Monk Botanical Gardens.

David Phelps

Community Outreach Manager

David joins The Neighbors' Place staff following a career of more than 31 years with the YMCA. He has worked at numerous YMCAs throughout the Midwest, and has been in the Wausau area for the last 15 years. He and his wife, Noel, have been married for 23 years and have three children.

David coordinates special events, works with our donors, and assists with many other projects operated here at The Neighbors' Place. He also enjoys working in his woodworking shop, tending to his garden and collecting and restoring antique tractors.

Ann has enjoyed working with people for the past 20 years. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family: her grown daughter, her 3 great neices and her nephew. Ann also enjoys partaking in the Community Learning Center knitting group, where she works on her knitting, crocheting and cross stich projects.

 

Irene RobINS

Food Pantry Assistant

Irene is an intake clerk in the Food Pantry, screening eligable clients. She is inspired by Tom Rau's dedication to strenghtening his community. Irene resides in Wausau with her son. She enjoys cooking, flower pot gardening, reading and watching science fiction.
