Contributing in Other Ways

The Neighbors' Place is in need of donations of money, non-perishable food, and household items and clothing in good condition.

Checks can be made out to The Neighbors' Place, and can be mailed to us at 745 Scott St., Wausau, WI 54403. All contributions are tax deductible.

Bring food to The Neighbors Place food pantry, or contribute to the many food drives in our community, or at local super markets. We are in most need of canned or boxed foods, prepared meals, and staples like sugar and flour (Top 10 needed food items).

Drop off items only during our open hours, 9-5 weekdays, Please do not drop off items at night or on holidays or weekends.

Household Donations Program

The Neighbors' Place collects and distributes clean, useable household items to people in need. Items such as clothing, furniture, small appliances, tools, dishes, glassware, and kitchen utensils can be brought to The Neighbors' Place during regular business hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m., M-F). We do not accept items after hours or on weekends or holidays. Contact The Neighbors' Place at (715) 845-1966, or e-mail our director Tom Rau at tom@neighborsplace.org.

How to Volunteer

The Neighbors' Place depends on hundreds of volunteers. It's easy to sign up. Just call (715) 845-1966, or e-mail our director Tom Rau at tom@neighborsplace.org. What do we need? Folks with a caring heart and some extra time to help us with answering the phone, mailings, maintenance, and other important tasks.

The Neighbors’ Place staff and volunteers work diligently to meet the core needs of individuals and families throughout the greater Wausau area.

  • The Food Pantry has seen a huge increase in use with the downturn in our economy.
  • Our Free Market provides clothing and furnishings to people who might otherwise go without.
  • The Adult Education program assists individuals to learn English as a second language, and advance or utilize important life skills like sewing or computer use.
  • The Children’s Education program provides vital socialization activities after school, giving kids a place to make positive connections, and provides day camp to children in the summer.
  • Our Community Garden allows families to harvest their own fresh foods, and each gardener contributes a portion of their yield to the Food Pantry to share with other families.
  • During the Christmas season, families have the opportunity to find a few small gifts for their children.

As a hub of this community, The Neighbors’ Place brings the surplus resources that individuals, families and businesses have to those who are in need. We all help each other – that’s what being a part of a neighborhood is all about!

Last year, we were blessed to reach the goal for our fund drive, allowing us to make critical improvements to our building. We carefully use those funds for debt reduction and facility updates.

With the increasing needs of the people in our area, we need to raise funds to support the ongoing programs, too, which are not covered by the funds contributed during that campaign.

Please become a Neighbors’ Place Neighbor! Your thoughtful contribution will help us provide for the core needs of the people we serve. Your contribution of any size is greatly appreciated, and we hope you’ll proudly use the enclosed bookmark featuring Sid Kyler’s artwork depicting the six programs of our agency. As a special thank you, donors giving $100 or more will receive a limited-edition, signed print of this original artwork – a full-size version you’ll surely want to display in your home or office.

We are so grateful for your belief in our mission, and your continued support.
